Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis is a Gram-positive anaerobic rod-shaped bacterium found in the large intestines of mammals. It is one of the most popular probiotic bacteria, representing up to 90% of an infant's GI tract bacteria, decreasing to roughly 3% as humans age. It participates in metabolism by fermenting glucose, galactose, and fructose to produce Lactic Acid, Acetic Acid, Enzymes, and Vitamins.
